I cried. I cried a lot. In fact, I'm still a little teary. It's just heart-wrenching, especially at the end. My mom was watching it with me and she cried too.
Pan's Labyrinth is about a young girl, Ofelia in Spain in 1944, after the Spanish Civil War. Like much of Europe, Spain went to the dark side with fascism. Her father died during the war, so her mother has remarried with a military officer. He's a bastard.
The fantasy part is kinda hard to explain, you have to watch the movie.
Oh yeah, you'll be watching it subbed, because it's in Spanish. If you like watching anime in Japanese, it's a similar experience. I have to say, I didn't really know what Spain Spanish sounds like, but I like it. ^^ Pretty.
